Walnuts Can Prevent Breast Cancer ..?

Breast cancer is the disease most feared and haunted woman, but for breast cancer that has not been a good idea to try foods that can prevent breast cancer, such as walnuts.


Compared with the type of the other nuts, walnuts are very unique indeed. As information, walnuts was the only nuts that mostly contain alpha-linolenic acid, a type of omega-3 fatty acids which are bio active components that can inhibit the formation of cancer types or MDA-MB 231 breast cancer.

Researchers from Marshall University School of Medicine was trying to figure out what content contained in walnuts.

Walnuts is not very popular compared to so many other foods are touted as anti-cancer foods such as soybeans, tomatoes and more. However, studies show that regular consumption of walnuts can lower bad cholesterol (LDL) and increase healthy cholesterol (HDL) in the body.

Not only that, walnuts are also very well known to prevent and slow the progression of breast cancer. Walnuts are very unique compared to other nuts because only walnuts the only nut that contain alpha-linolenic acid, a type of omega-3 fatty acids which contain the most, as quoted from the Health.
Other sources of alpha-linolenic acid are soybean, flaxseed, fish and some green vegetables, but pregnancy is only slight and no excess of walnuts.

In their study, the researchers wanted to know the effect of walnut consumption on the development of breast cancer in mice. The components contained in walnuts as phytosterols, polyphenols, carotenoids, melatonin and omega-3 fatty acids are bioactive components that may inhibit cancer formation type MDA-MB 231 or breast cancer.

To determine its effectiveness, the tumor cells were injected in two groups of mice as a precursor of breast cancer. One group was fed walnuts and other groups did not. After 10 days, tumor cells were found in mice that were not given walnut growing, in contrast to mice that ate walnuts had experienced shrinkage of tumor cells.

From there, researchers from the Department of Biochemistry and Microbiology know that walnuts can indeed prevent the growth of cancer cells, especially breast cancer. Researchers also found levels of eicosapentaenoic (EPA) and docosahexaenoic (DHA) in liver rats fed walnuts higher than mice not given walnuts.

EPA and DHA are known abundant in marine fish such as salmon, sardines and others. But apparently implies the walnuts did not lose much. In addition to known benefits in preventing cancer growth, EPA and DHA are also very good for the development and enhance the ability of the brain.
